May 8, 2010 - International Thalassaemia Day - events

8th May is observed all over the world as International Thalassaemia Day.  It is day for organizationa and individuals working for the cause of Thalassaemia to recharge their batteries and renew their pledge to contribute to the cause.

The We Care Trust, an NGO that works for the cause of Thalassaemia, had organized special screening of a film at Fun Republic for more than 150 children and their parents. Lucky draws and games ensured a steady stream of gifts for the children. Celebrities from the film and television world attended the programme to smile on the faces of the children. The programme ended with lunch being served to all the children and their parents.

Think Foundation had participated in an Entertainment programme for the children receiving transfusions at the Day Care Centre at Prabodhan Blood Bank, Goregaon. The management of the Blood Bank had taken pains to organize games, magic show, gifts and food to the children receiving transfusions at their Centre, whi had come with their parents. The Day Care Centre was celebrating its first birthday – last year on 8th May the Centre was inaugurated by the management of Prabodhan Blood Bank at the initiative of Think Foundation.

Think Foundation had also organized a Screening Camp for Thalassaemia Minor in association with Nirmal Lifestyles, and sponsored by Novartis. Continuous announcements were made over the public address system to visitors to the popular mall. A large number of youngsters got themselves tested for Thalassaemia Minor.
