Today, due to steps taken by the Government of Maharashtra, most children receive blood transfusions free of cost. However, iron overload, which is a resultant of the transfusions, continues to be a problem. The system of removal of excess iron (iron chelation) is not available to most children due to reasons of cost.

Think Foundation receives requests from parents of Thalassaemic children for financial support to avail of iron chelation drugs. While we provide support on a case-to-case basis, Think Foundation is working on a system of offering iron chelation to all children living with Thalassaemia major.
