Organize a Micro Camp

Here's how a micro blood donation camp can be organized in the premises of your residential complex keeping all safety measures in place:

INTIAL ACTION BY OFFICE-BEARER

  • Please communicate with your residents about your desire to help patients in need of blood.
  • Convey to them that blood donation can be done within the society premises.
  • Inform them that the blood centre which is called will follow all safety measures rigidly.
  • Tell them that they will be called one after the other. At no point will there be more than 2 donors.
  • Tell them to register before-hand by giving their name and telephone number.

COMMUNICATE TO US

  • Please communicate with us about the number of people who have registered. We will then decide if it is feasible for a blood centre to come to your venue with a team.
  • We will check with you if we can conduct the camp in a Room within your premises. If not we will bring an air-conditioned Blood Collection Van.
  • If the number of registrations do not make it feasible for a camp to be organized, the residents can go to the nearest blood bank to donate blood. Please inform us of the same, and we will facilitate the walk-in donation.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP IN A ROOM/HALL

If you have an office or a Club-house or Gymkhana or a small Hall or a Common Room, the micro-camp can be done in this facility. The venue should have:

  • Adequate lighting and proper ventilation.
  • Fans if there is no air-conditioning.
  • Tables : 4 nos.
  • Cots : 2 nos. will be brought by the blood centre
  • Chairs : 8-10 nos.
  • Electrical point
  • Parking Space for the blood centre vehicle

BLOOD DONATION CAMP IN A VAN – NOT THE PREFERRED OPTION

If you do not have the above-mentioned space, we will get a Blood Collection Van to come to your premises. The Van is air-conditioned, and the actual act of blood donation can be done inside the Van – one donor at a time. Two small rooms will be required for pre-donation and post-donation activity. This can be discussed and worked out. Obviously, space will be required for parking the Van (which will be larger than a Bus).

ADDITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS

  • Soft drinks (Frooti) and Biscuits for all donors will be brought by the Blood Bank.
  • Drinking Water : For safety, you may ask each resident to bring his/her own bottle.

BLOOD BANK TEAM

We will be getting a Blood Bank which is licensed by the F.D.A. (Food & Drug Administration) and approved by the State Blood Transfusion Council. It is authorised and experienced to conduct the activity. For a 1-2 bedded blood donation camp, the blood bank will come with their sterilized/sanitized equipment, sanitizers, disinfectants and the following personnel (with gloves, aprons and masks):

  • Doctor
  • Technician
  • Phlebotomist
  • Medical Social Worker
  • Attendant
  • Helper

SEQUENCE OF ACTIVITY ON THE DAY OF THE CAMP

After the set-up is done by the blood centre (all tables and cots will be placed 5 feet apart) at the venue:

  • Registered donors will be called 1-2 at a time for blood donation.
  • Donors should come, preferably, with their own mask, bottle of water and pen.
  • Hand sanitizer will be made available at entry point.
  • Pre-donation screening will be carried out, and questions will be asked by doctor, to determine eligibility.
  • There will be only 1-2 donors donating blood at a time. If 2 donors are present, they will be spaced at least 5 feet apart.
  • The next donors will be called only after completion of the earlier donation.
  • Mandatory refreshments, Donor Card and Certificate will be given to the donor.

SAFETY MEASURES BY BLOOD BANK

  • The Blood Bank staff will be wearing gloves, masks and aprons. They will sanitize their gloves after contact with every donor.
  • All equipment brought by the Blood Bank will be subjected to disinfectants/sanitizers.
  • Donor couches will be scrubbed between 2 donations.
  • Donor's hands will be sanitized at entry and exit points.
